Cabin Usage Priority

Our general prioritization for cabin use is the following:

  1. Members and their immediate guests.  This includes individual members (and their families), and our classes (who are ALL members).  At this time we do not have a reservation system for individual members (including families), but classes and similar large groups (10 or more) need to coordinate with the cabin committee to pick dates.  Classes should be reserved well in advance (months) and announced on the cabin website (who, where, how many).  See below for details about expectations for large groups.

At the present time, we are not approaching capacity limits for members and guests.

  1. Individuals and small groups of other outdoor organizations on reciprocity visits (family size).  These visits are coordinated by the cabin committee.
  2. Non-WAC group sponsored (and hosted) by a WAC member.  Use is non-exclusive, and are coordinated by the cabin committee.  This category includes scouts, etc.
  3. Large groups from other non-profit organizations.  Such groups must be coordinated by the cabin committee, and a host will need to be present.
  4. Exclusive member group use including weddings, family reunions, etc.
  5. PCT Hikers (capacity of 25 target).
  6. Non-member commercial use.  This includes weddings, classes open beyond WAC, etc.

In all cases, appropriate cabin fees (member vs. non-member, day vs. overnight, class vs. non-class) are charged for use.  Students in classes are charged for cabin use.  This should be included in the class tuition and the treasurer will do the appropriate bookkeeping to assign funds.  Cabin work parties, cabin hosts, instructors teaching a class are not charged cabin fees.  See the bylaws for specific details.

The cabin committee will determine when cabin capacity is reached and at that point no additional groups can use the cabin for the time in question.  Typically this will be limited to 1 group at a time.

Member exclusive use (one small group for the whole weekend in the winter) is a legacy of the COVID policies and is replaced with the member group use (category 5).

Winter Season

In the winter season (New Snow Dinner in early December through April 15), there are no PCT hikers (cat-6), no member exclusive (cat-5) and no commercial use (cat-7).

Spring & Fall Season

Cabin usage tends to be light from mid-September through mid-December, and from the end of March until the snow melts out mid-June.  All categories of use are allowed.  Groups must still coordinate with the cabin committee.  Work parties typically occur in May, June, and July.  Exclusive use must be coordinated with work parties..

Summer Season

Summer begins June 15, and continues to mid-September.  PCT Hikers appear around July 15 and share cabin.

Exclusive use (member or non-member commercial) is allowed.
