When: Sunday 01/15/2023
Where: Philadelphia Mountain, Lake Serene Trailhead, Index Hwy 2, 10 miles total, 3,700 feet elevation gain. Last outing here was 12/2005.
Skills Required: BOEALPS Basic Mountaineering Class (BMC) formerly Basic Climbing Class (BCC) or equivalent experience (such as the Washington Alpine Club’s Basic Climbing Class). Comfortable with travel in snowy and steep backcountry terrain.

Gear:
– Required: Snowshoes, micro-spikes (or crampons), ice axe, avalanche beacon/probe/shovel. Winter clothing to safely function in a wet, cold, snowy environment. Note: There are 4 loaner sets of avalanche gear (beacons, probes, shovels) available for BOEALPS members. Let the trip leader know in advance if you need to borrow.
– Optional: Hiking poles with snow baskets, a hot drink for the summit, camera, helmets for possible steep sections and/or protection from icy tree bombs.
