Field Trips

This field trip calendar is for anyone to see where the WAC is planning on being and approximate group size to allow coordination with other outdoor groups and individuals who may want to choose alternate locations or dates.
Every effort is made to keep this up to date but plans change due to weather and other conditions.

Basic Climbing Class (March – June)
Basic Mount Si – Typically March 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. 32 Students and 20 instructors. All day field trip on Mount Si near North Bend. Instruction takes place below the Haystack, off the trail. No impact to other users.

Basic SPIRE – Typically March, 2 weekends 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. 32 Students and 20 instructors. All day field trip to SPIRE Rock @ Sprinker Recreation Center, Spanaway. The SPIRE rock is reserved exclusively for WAC all day.

Basic Mount Erie – Typically early April 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. 32 Students and 15 instructors. All day event. At Mount Erie near Anacortes. The upper cliff and friction slab will have a lot of people on them.

Basic Vantage (Frenchman Coulee) – Typically mid April 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. Approximately 32 students and 15 instructors. Climbing on various routes at Vantage. Top ropes are setup on a few routes to allow students to practice belaying and climbing.

Basic Artist Point, Mount Baker area – Typically late July / early May 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. Approximately 32 Students and 15 instructors. Overnight in the Artist Point area of Mount Baker. Limited impact to other users.

Basic The Tooth – Typically mid-May, 2 weekends 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. A group of 5 students and 5 instructors. All day event on each of 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). At a peak named “The Tooth” in the Snoqualmie area.

Basic Lundin Peak – Typically mid-May, 2 weekends 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. A group of 5 students and 5 instructors. All day event on each of 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). At a peak named “Lundin Peak” in the Snoqualmie area.

Basic Nisqually Glacier, Mt Rainier NP – Typically early June 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. A group of instructors camps on the Nisqually glacier and has a permit from Rainier National Park Rangers for Friday and Saturday night. 32 Students and 20 instructors are on the glacier each day (Saturday and Sunday). Gear is setup on at least 1 crevasse and at least one steep ice wall.

Basic Mount Baker – Typically early – mid June 🔽 Basic Climbing Class. Approximately 20 students and 10 instructors camp on the Easton Glacier on Saturday night and summit via the Roman Wall early Sunday morning. An additional 10 students and 5 instructors camp on the Squak Glacier.

Intermediate Climbing Class (August – September)
Intermediate Coleman Seracs Mount Baker – Typically Mid August 🔽 Intermediate Climbing Class. Up to 8 students and 8 instructors. Ice climbing.

Intermediate Mt. Erie – Typically mid August 🔽 Intermediate Climbing Class. Up to 8 students and 8 instructors. Climbing and practicing self rescue technique. All day.

Intermediate Leavenworth – Typically late August 🔽 Intermediate Climbing Class. Up to 8 students and 8 instructors.

Intermediate Vantage – Typically early September 🔽 Intermediate Climbing Class. Up to 8 students and 8 instructors. Vantage climbing area.

Intermediate Tieton – Typically mid September 🔽 Intermediate Climbing Class. Up to 8 students and 8 instructors.
