It is time for the annual Summer Climb to Ingalls Peak (http://www.summitpost.org/ingalls-peaks/151160). This is a nice easy climb, in a rather spectacular setting (Mount Stuart is just across the valley), with a promise of good weather (from the NWS, not me). No (planned) walking around in the dark, in the rain, looking for the summit of a volcano. Just warm rock, big views, and perhaps some good Mexican food in Cle Elum.
This is a 3-pitch rock climb that goes at about 5.6. This year there is a 6-mile approach (the road is washed out about 1.2 miles from the usual trail head). I expect the last 1.5 miles (from Ingalls Pass to the base) to be on snow.
We will leave the trail head at 6:30am on Saturday morning (to try to beat the Mountaineers party on the route), returning to town Saturday evening. To make things simpler and more civilized, we will camp at 29 Pines (http://www.dnr.wa.gov/teanaway) – Discover Pass required for camping. This is about 30 minutes from the trailhead. NW Forest Pass is required for the trailhead (Iron Peak TH).
Gear (the stuff you would bring on the tooth is a good starting point):
boots/gaiters/helmet/ice axe
Harness, belay device, runners, and slings, etc.
Clothing appropriate for the weather (sunny, 40s->60s, may be windy).
Food….always bring food.
We will provide ropes and rack (leave room in your pack ).
Come celebrate the arrival of summer on the south face of Ingalls!
We have two leaders confirmed (Pat O’Brien, Mike). We have 3-5 follower slots (depending on how our other two leaders come through). I wanted to get this announce out early so you can plan. RSVP so we can start coordinating cars and such. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions.
